Tara Ellis

Tara received her Social Work degrees, both Bachelors and Masters, from
Dalhousie University in 2013 and 2014 respectively. She has worked in community
social services, mental health units, hospitals, and as the country's first Disability
Settlement Counsellor, working with newcomers to Canada with disabling
conditions. In 2022, she started working in online therapy because of the
pandemic and in 2025, she started New Path Counselling.

Tara is an experienced and passionate Social Worker. Since she lives with chronic
illnesses, pain and neurodivergence herself, respect for and inclusiveness of
people like her has been a lifelong mission, even before she began her Social
Work degrees. She has appeared as a spokesperson for the Hospital for Sick
Children in Toronto, and represented research she conducted for the March of
Dimes in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Most notably, she coordinated a campaign at York

University to improve the accessibility of Glendon College, and hosted David
Onley and York University administrators on film doing a scavenger hunt in
manual wheelchairs in the winter to demonstrate the need to improve accessibility
and inclusion. During her years working in the immigration field, she developed
protocols to disabled protect children and vulnerable adults from being deported
because of Canada's exclusionary policies. She was also a french-speaking
member of staff.

Tara has a passion for helping people through challenging times. With a strong
background in customer service and driven by a strong desire to help people,
Tara understands the importance of client engagement, open communication, and
accountability. Understanding people, their families, and personal circumstances
plays an integral role in all aspects of her work. She believes in focusing on
problem-solving, identifying interests, and setting goals to help people find a
healthy path forward.

When she is not working, Tara enjoys singing, improv, going to the theatre, and
traveling. She is very happily married to her beloved husband, Todd.
